Venus Retrograde Aries/Pisces: March 4 – April 15

Venus

On March 4th, Venus, planet of love, beauty and pleasure, will station retrograde in the 13° of Aries and make its way back into Pisces, where it will join Neptune and Chiron. While on this backwards journey, Venus will form a conjunction to Mercuryexact on April 1st , and then head on into Pisces, where it will meet up with and form a conjunction to Chiron in the 26° of Pisces. It is here, in the very same degree occupied by Chiron, the wounded healer, where Venus will also station direct on April 15th.

This retrograde, Venus will spend the next 6 weeks backtracking to where it was on January 30th, bringing awareness or re-emphasizing certain experiences that we have had since then. It is likely the issues Venus will touch on have been consuming too much of our energy, on one level or another, and it is time to re-process, respond and move on.

When Venus is retrograde, its energy is turned inward and expressed differently than we are used to. This distorted energy may have a difficult time presenting itself in the external world, while stirring things up internally; bringing up buried desires and making us more aware of the give and take in our relationships – or lack there of.

Additionally, Venus is associated with money and valuables. As Venus stations retrograde, there is the tendency to feel shifts or experience changes in regards to ones’ finances. You may find yourself repaying or reminded of past debts. It is also a good time to do some pre-Spring cleaning, that which no longer serves you may still be of value to someone else. Recycle and reuse.

The specific ways in which Venus retrograde may manifest or express itself in one’s life depends on where Venus is located in one’s natal chart, and its relationship to other planets and points on the chart. That said, Venus is one of the inner planets and is felt personally. It plays a role in relationships and matters of the heart, as well as what one finds beautiful or attractive. It is also associated with our sense of touch and pleasure; Venus pushes us toward what feels good. When it is retrograde, there is the tendency for hiccups or changes to take place in these areas of our personality and life.

Venus begins its retrograde mid-way through the sign Aries, known for its ability to be a bit impulsive and hot headed. Aries is an energetic sign; it helps us to initiate projects, to find the strength to face conflict and the courage to stand up for oneself. However, Venus stationing retrograde in Aries can make us question this courage and strength. It can paralyze the determination of Aries and cause us to question what we want or desire. It can also lead to a sense of self-pity, feeling as though the world or universe is conspiring against you and your wants and needs, as Aries tends to bring along with it a sense of internal conflict or friction. Though in the moment, this can be overwhelming, loud and intense – if you allow it to, it can also serve as a catalyst for creating, building, manifesting and even learning to love oneself.

Though it may prove particularly difficult to meditate or quiet ones mind during these times, it is also very important and a key coping mechanism. Be gentle with yourself and with others. Try not to take others behavior too personally. Underneath the surface, we are all trying to navigate our own personal tensions within.

In addition to lessons in self-love and efficacy, the chart for Venus stationing retrograde places Venus in the 4th house suggesting we may find ourselves exploring issues related to our past, our home and the roots from which we came. We may also find ourselves exploring our familial relationships and the ways they have helped or hindered us in forming our own identity and creating future relationships. It is common to find oneself re-defining their sense of home or family; as well as the desire to make some deep personal changes, that may differ from the way one was raised to be or behave. Thus, altering our relationship to that which we have always found safe and familiar.

This sense of independence or need for change is fueled further by a conjunction between Mars and Uranus, also in fiery Aries. Mars is assertive and driven to action, while Uranus is unpredictable, rebellious and innovative. The combined energy of these two planets in the 4th house suggests the need to break free of traditional, outdated familial confinements – while at the same time pursuing ideals that we strongly resonate with. Whether it is where one chooses to live, what religious beliefs one carries with them, how one raises their children, spends their money, or who one decides to share and show their love – it is likely that there is some pretty substantial inner shifting taking place. However, as with any change or shift – there is also likely to be some disruption. Mars and Uranus acting together can be rambunctious and messy; it can also feel a bit selfish and cold.  A little bit of awareness and reflection can go a long way. Aim to do what is best for you without shunning others or casting a negative light on that which you’ve decided does not work for you.

Furthermore, Mars and Uranus are caught in an opposition to Jupiter in the 10th house, associated with career and one’s reputation. As Jupiter tends to magnify whatever it touches, there is the tendency for the issues that are re-aligning and simmering within to seep out, in turn affecting the way we are viewed by others – particularly in a professional sense. Finding healthy physical release may prove helpful in managing stress and preventing unnecessary outbursts or misdirecting anger.

Meanwhile, Saturn in the 1st house forms a trine to Uranus reminding us of the importance of discipline and boundaries. While Pluto, also in the 1st house, forms a square to Uranus and Jupiter – intensifying the need to both claim ones power and re-establish both the way one is viewed by others and the way one interprets their surroundings. Together, Saturn and Pluto in the 1st house suggests the need to let go of the idea of whom you’ve decided you are; the view that you’ve always had of yourself, in order to make room for the growth taking place and the person you are soon to become.

On April 4th, Venus will re-enter Pisces, calming the fiery energy of Aries. Our focus shifts and we are given a glimpse of the bigger picture; the feeling that we are all connected. The Aries energy that has been pushing us to focus on our wants and needs settles, as we become concerned with channeling a deeper, more unconditional version of ourselves.

On April 9th, Mercury will station retrograde in Taurus adding its own quirks to this strange, reflective time and further re-iterating the changing relationship between our desires, values and self-esteem and our sense of inner harmony.

Finally, on April 15th, Venus will arrive at 26° Pisces, where it will station direct and form a conjunction to Chiron. Though Venus will be direct and will have resumed its forward motion, things are not likely to feel quite right yet. Chiron is associated with both the awareness and healing of the deep existential wounds we carry within us. Chiron transits can be difficult and tumultuous. Often accompanied with the growing pains of life. This energy combined with Venus suggests we may find ourselves needing to face old wounds related to relationships, finances or ones’ image. The goal of making contact with these wounds is not to dwell on the misery and pain, but to go through it to the other side where healing takes place. Instead of casting aside and blocking out or disowning these wounds and parts of ourselves, we must learn to embrace them as part of one’s story.

As Venus begins to head back towards Aries, the focus shifts back to oneself and ones’ passions. Though Mercury will still be retrograde for another few weeks, and life still feels fuzzy and uncertain, it is likely the lessons of Venus retrograde will have helped us to achieve a greater sense of clarity regarding our wants and needs; as well as, a newly found confidence and trust in ourselves.

The specific affects of planetary transits differ based on where planets are located in one’s natal chart and where the current planets are transiting. The above is a general forecast based off a chart designed for the aspect discussed.  If you would like more personalized advice, or have questions or feedback of any kind, please send me an email!

Venus in Virgo 10/8, Mercury Stations Direct in Libra 10/9 : Coming Full Circle

Over the past couple of months, we experienced both Venus and Mercury stationing retrograde. Venus stationed retrograde at 1° Virgo on July 25th, and backtracked through the latter half of Leo, where it stationed direct on September 9th. On October 8th, Venus reaches Virgo again – likely, bringing to closure on some level, many of the issues we have been addressing since it stationed retrograde, as well as in a sense bringing us back to “where we were” around the end of July, with a fresh perspective and likely a change in values.

For more on Venus retrograde through Leo, check out Leaving The Comfort Zone

With Venus moving into Virgo, we are able to finally move forward beyond the ties to this most recent retrograde. Revisiting Leo allowed us another glimpse at the “big picture” in regard to our relationships, our finances and our values. Now in Virgo, we are able to fine tune the details – to work out all the kinks and REALLY integrate and seal in these new ways of being; tending to our seeds of intent, knowing that soon we will reap what we have sown.

Whereas Venus in Leo thrives on the attention and dramatics of the situation, Venus in Virgo is more about being validated and genuinely appreciated. Venus in Leo is fun, loving and always looking to play, but Venus in Virgo is critical, hard-working and looking to serve. There is a time to play, but there is also a time to work and with Venus in Leo for the past few months, it may have been easy to overlook our daily obligations. However, with Venus in Virgo making a square to Saturn in Sagittarius, play time is over for now. It is time to acknowledge our commitments and responsibilities; to practice integrity and sticking to the new values and goals we have created for ourselves.

Additionally, Virgo is associated with our health and our daily routines and habits. With Venus here it is important to take care of ones’ health. If you have been putting off getting something checked out or over-indulging in particularly unhealthy habits – health issues may begin to rear their head. Be sure to stay on top of your well-being: physical, mental and spiritual.

Early on the morning of October 9th, Mercury stations direct in the 1° Libra. Mercury’s recent retrograde through Venus ruled Libra hit on many of the same issues we had been sorting out with the Venus retrograde, but likely shed a new light on them. One that is more contemplative and analytical and less about the heartfelt connection. With Mercury stationing direct in 1° of Libra, we begin the storm phase, our journey back to where Mercury stationed retrograde. As Mercury slows to station direct and begins to head in the “right” direction, we will likely endure a bit more of the wacky retrograde energy before we are entirely in the clear.

Here is an excerpt on Mercury stationing direct from an earlier Starface post, Staying Dry Through The Storm:

“When Mercury stations direct, it appears to stop and slowly begin to move forward again. As Mercury is a quick moving planet – it doesn’t take long before it appears to pick up momentum and increase in its forward motion. It takes Mercury about two weeks to finally get up to speed, and it is this period of time we refer to as the Storm phase. Storm can make it sound scarier and more intense than it really is. Just as Mercury retrograde should not instill fear, neither should the Storm phase. Awareness, however, always comes in handy. There will be no hurricane, no massive flooding. Maybe some thunder and lightening, but I suggest thinking of it, at least metaphorically, as a downpour of rain, washing away the past, hydrating plants and life. It may be dark and dreary, visibility may be low and we may not quite know where we are going – but after we are left with rainbows, blue skies and beautiful greenery – refreshed with a sense of clarity.”

As Mercury moves ahead in Libra, we will likely feel the tug of ourselves pulling away from older traits and ways of being, and moving fully into this “new” version of ourselves. We will notice our communications slowly improve, as well as the tension, doubt and feelings of instability slowly beginning to melt away. However, with Mars and the Moon forming a conjunction in Virgo, the tension in the air is re-enforced a bit longer, and we may find it hard not to act on emotions and/or to be critical of others. Whereas during the retrograde it was not the best time to act on ones feelings, Saturn making a square to the Moon, Venus and Mars suggests that now is the time. We have re-evaluated our thoughts, our ways, our wants and our needs and have arrived at some sort of solution as to how we are going to move forward from here. Now, with both Venus and Mercury direct, we take our first step.

With Mercury direct and Venus back in Virgo – we are ready to move forward, to get on to the next project, and/or for things to go back to “normal”. However, with the Sun approaching an opposition to Uranus, we are re-defining what our “normal” mode of function is, as we come full circle in this retrograde cycle.

Meanwhile, Neptune in Pisces opposing the stellium of planets in Virgo reminds us of the importance of incorporating true creativity and heart into everything we do, while at the same time reminding us to be real and honest with ourselves as we begin this new journey.

Venus Retrograde Trine Uranus

This morning Venus and the Moon both make aspects to Uranus, this suggesting it can be an emotionally erratic time. Uranus is unpredictable and can sometimes be a bit disastrous, but it can also be extremely inventive and creative, and is a great problem solver!

Uranus opposing the Moon and trining Venus retrograde gives us innovative energy to find and create solutions to issues that have arisen or become more prevalent since July 25, when Venus stationed retrograde. Uranus is original, smart and is helpful at offering a different perspective on things. At the same time, it can create a feeling of detachment, the need for emotional freedom and independence. This can be helpful, as detaching from situations/people/ideas can allow for a more objective look. It is important to examine the roots of our emotions from time to time. How much of what you feel is influenced by others? Are you being easily affected by others moods and stress? It is true that we have control over our feelings, but it is also true that our environment and those we share it with play an impact on our mood as well. Try to allow this “detachment” to help bring you more in touch with what you are feeling, instead of disconnecting.

Unpredictable Uranus can also trigger the tendency for unexpected issues to rear their head. Being as present as possible, flexible and understanding is beneficial, as one can make a conscious effort to be a part of the solution and keep a positive attitude, instead of overreacting and exacerbating the problem.

With the Moon in the 1st house, we are our emotions. Libra on the cusp here suggests there is the need to create or find a sense of peace. Life has been a place of extremes lately. All or nothing. Libra’s presence on the Ascendant reminds us balance is essential and should be part of our goal.

Venus retrograde has likely shifted our perspective and the way we normally respond to things, as we have re-evaluated our wants, needs and values. With another few weeks left on her backwards journey from Virgo into Leo, we can expect this rather introspective time of examining that which we love and find pleasure in to continue a bit longer. For more on Venus retrograde, check out Venus Retrograde in Leo 7/25-9/06.

Additionally, Chiron opposes Mercury and trines Saturn – it is likely we may have to address something that we would much rather not – Chiron and Saturn are present to remind us that this is part of the growth process, problems unacknowledged cannot be fixed. Awareness, though sometimes painful, is a necessary part of change.

Changing For The Better: Venus Rx Conjunct Jupiter, Mercury and Sun

On August 1st, Venus made it’s way back into Leo where it joined Jupiter, Mercury and the Sun. With Leo beaming its glorious glow through 4 planets there is the tendency for things to become dramatic and/or over the top, as we engage and interact with the bolder aspects of the personalities around us. Additionally, we may feel the fire in the sky fueling our passion and heightening our creativity.

Throughout the next week and a half, as Venus’ retrograde path collides with the 3 forward moving planets, we will witness a sort of planetary dance, in conjunction form. The first pair of partners will be Venus and Jupiter, then Venus will move onto dance with Mercury, then Mercury and Jupiter will have their turn to dance. Venus will continue back through Leo, and dance  its final dosey doe, as it conjuncts the Sun on August 16. With so many planets so close together in Leo – there will likely be an element of tension in the air increasing the probability of clashing egos. This tension may also fuel the need to address recent changes to our values system and project them into the outside world. However, with Venus on its backwards track, we are still re-evaluating and it is likely that that which has changed will continue to morph as Venus makes contact with each planet.

As Venus, planet of love and values, meets up with Jupiter, the planet of luck and manifestation, Mercury, the planet of communication and mental awareness, and the Sun, planet associated with our identity – we are reviewing and reconsidering what it is we want in life and what we are willing to sacrifice in order to make these ideals/things happen. Will it take being brave and bold and confronting ones fears? Will it take giving up leisure activities to spend more time focusing on improving ones skills? Will it take risking certain goals to attain others? Will it take making compromises in relationships in order to stay with the person we love? Are we content with life, with no need to make change – and if so, is that the same thing as happiness?

While we find ourselves reflecting over our values, our wants and needs –  the activity taking place in the 11th house – suggests that though we may all handle our battles differently, there is a sense of understanding on a larger scale, that each of us is struggling similarly to create balance amidst the energy’s tug of war. Turning to ones community and friends may bring unexpected comfort and bonding, as relating through “co-misery” triggers healing of deep rooted issues relating to loneliness and helps us to see that our mistakes and flaws don’t need to define us – but we can let them serve, guide and better us.

As Saturn, now direct, transits the 2nd house, our sense of reality shifts as our security is jolted. With Scorpio on the cusp and Saturn making a square to Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, things may feel scary and uncertain, yet at the same time have a comforting familiarity about them. Saturn triggers change necessary to evolve and grow and as it makes a square to our re-evaluating of that which we love and value – we are being pushed to grow, urged to blossom, move beyond our comfort zone and establish new boundaries with both ourselves and others.

With Libra on the Ascendant, making a square to Pluto and opposition to Uranus – we are given the opportunity to diplomatically address issues that have been looming beneath the surface. We are given the opportunity to see both sides of the equation, to acknowledge the ideals and emotional needs of others, as well as our own. At the same time, as much as we are still mulling over certain aspects of life, we begin to realize that though our heart may continue to fumble over what it is we want and need – our mind has already made its decision. As Pluto also aspects both the Sun and Midheaven, we are urged to confront the issues hidden beneath the surface and to begin the mental preparation needed to face whatever fears still stand in the way of completing the metamorphosis we are currently undergoing.

Blue Moon in Aquarius: Looking Beneath the Shadows

Allow yourself to see that just as the Universe is made up of dark and light matter – so are we. Without the dark matter in space, the brightness of the stars and celestial bodies might not seem so sublime and without the beaming glow of the stars and celestial bodies the darkness would not seem so mysterious and intriguing.

Just about 3 arc minutes before Venus retrograde reaches the cusp of Leo, we experience the second full moon of the month, known as a Blue Moon. When the Moon graces us with her full face twice in one month it is an indication that we should pay attention to our emotions and intuition.

We live in a world where it is very easy to become disconnected to the living beings we are. Society requires us to be concerned with our appearance and our finances – but very rarely encourages us to connect with the deeper parts of ourselves.

Our lack of interaction with our true essence of life casts this part of us into the darkness, the shadow aspects of our personality. It is the part of us where that “little voice” lives, the part of us that longs for the soothing touch of another when we feel sad and broken, it is where we banish our sexual thoughts and desires to, and where our creativity is born. It is the part of us where our shame lives, where guilt brews – and the majority of the time, instead of acknowledging these feelings or urges we bury them beneath drugs, violence or simply a facade of lies. We do not question where these ideas, pains or emotions come from or why we have them – instead we have been conditioned to think of them as”bad” and cover it up by something else in which we have been taught is “good” or the way one should be.

This Full Moon sheds light on the darkness we have kept hidden, allowing us – if we choose – to make peace with the more “unaccepted” parts of ourselves. It is an opportunity to bridge the internal gap that exists between the spirit within us and the egocentric personalities that we project into the world. Additionally, with Venus recently stationing retrograde and Pluto retrograde presenting itself on the 7th house cusp – more light will also be shed on our relationships.

During a Full Moon, there is the tendency for the buried to surface. On Friday, July 31, a few hours before sunrise, the Full Moon will reach its peak in Aquarius. The magnificent light of the Moon, connecting us with the progressive, quirky, radical energy of Aquarius in the realm of the 8th house suggests we are in the midst of transformation. Aquarius is a vibrant, eccentric sign, determined to shake up the status quo and encourage individuality.

The Suns presence, on the opposite  side of the zodiac, in Leo in the 2nd house further encourages us to be bold and expressive. With Leo on the 2nd house, there is the tendency to find security in the appreciation and acknowledgement of those around you – and with Mercury, Venus retrograde and Jupiter close by – there is likely the need to share information and release emotions. For some, this may occur on a more personal level, where personal acknowledgement, acceptance and appreciation of one’s own inner differences may be the mission at hand. Astrology affects us all differently depending on how one’s natal chart is aspected by the current celestial transits. However, with the repression that comes along with Venus retrograde, expressing ones feelings may not come easily, regardless of how ones chart is aspected.

Along with the already heightened energy surrounding our relationships brought about by Venus retrograde, Pluto retrograde in Capricorn in the 7th house is opposing the Ascendant in Cancer. This makes relationship issues even more obvious and reaffirms the need for some deep, honest change in regard to how we manage our partnerships. Though it is important for relationships to be built around trust, love and respect – it is also necessary for relationships to have goals. Relating to other people is one way in which we grow as individuals, but in order to really grow as a couple, friendship or partnership – mountains must be climbed and conquered together. It is the time spent climbing and conquering together where trust, compassion and true love thrives and memories are made. Without these goals or a sense of direction, relationships may feel like a dead end or trap. Pluto retrograde can also present situations in a rather dire manner, where “forced change” is required. With the placements of all the other planets, our freedom and individuality is definitely being fueled and prioritized, feeling trapped or lacking growth may provoke unexpected actions.

With Mars, Venus retrograde and Jupiter narrowing in on the Sun and Mercury in the 2nd House and Saturn continuing to creep its way through Scorpio in the 5th house – it seems whatever issues the Full Moon and Venus retrograde are requiring we pay attention to are competing with the clock. There is an element of time at hand, and whether it be a deadline we must abide by, our own biological clock, or just the emotional need to complete the current chapter in life – we are being urged to move forward and take the next step. Additionally Scorpios energy on the 5th house – emphasizing the energy of Leo even more, suggests that constraints on creative and sexual release are likely a big part of the problem, as well as the solution.

With the Full Moon in Aquarius, we are given the safe space to express those parts we keep hidden, and we are able to take a more objective approach to integrating these parts into our public persona than perhaps we’ve been able to in the past.

With Chiron, the centaur, conjuncting the Midheaven and making a trine to both Saturn and Mars, our wounds become more accessible and visible to ourselves and others. We are able to see the flaws that have become the entangled webs of our lives – trapping us until we decide to acknowledge them, own them and rise above them.

Venus Retrograde in Leo 7/25 – 9/06 : Leaving The Comfort Zone

On July 25th, Venus, planet of love, beauty and pleasure, will station retrograde in the 1° of Virgo and make its way back through the last half of the sign Leo, where it joins Jupiter, Mercury and the Sun. During its backwards journey, it will make a conjunction to each of these planets, and then several weeks later make an exact conjunction to Mars. When planets are in conjunction with one another, they are occupying the same degree of the zodiac, from the perspective of Earth. The energy associated with the conjunction is tense and tight. The combining of the energies creates friction, a state of stress, which ultimately will lead to new cycles, beginnings and opportunity.

This retrograde, Venus will spend the next 6 weeks backtracking to where it was on June 21st, bringing awareness or re-emphasizing certain experiences that we have had since then. It is likely the issues Venus will touch on have been consuming too much of our energy, on one level or another, and it is time to re-process, respond and move on.

When Venus is retrograde, its energy is turned inward and expressed differently than we are used to. This distorted energy may have a difficult time presenting itself in the external world, while stirring things up internally – bringing up buried desires and making us more aware of the give and take in our relationships – or lack there of.

Additionally, Venus is associated with money and valuables. As Venus stations retrograde, there is the tendency to feel shifts or experience changes in regards to ones finances and you may find yourself repaying or reminded of past debts. It is also a good time to do some Summer cleaning, that which no longer serves you may still be of value to someone else. Recycle and reuse.

The specific ways in which Venus retrograde may manifest or express itself in one’s life depends on where Venus is located in one’s natal chart, and its relationship to other planets and points on the chart. That said, it can be a relatively intense experience. As it combines with Jupiter, the expansive planet of luck and manifestation, it can lead to feeling like things are out of whack – particularly in regard to ones relationships and financial situations.

Venus begins its retrograde in the very first degree of Virgo, known for its ability to be critical and analytical. Virgo helps us fine tune, and narrow in on details, but Venus returning to Leo suggests maybe we should re-consider the larger picture before going in and tweaking things to perfection. Is this what you really want? Would making those small changes really make that big of a difference in the grand scheme of things?

As Venus retraces its path through Leo and makes its aspect to Jupiter – there is the tendency for over dramatization of situations, and you may find seemingly small issues feeling much larger under the giant’s magnifying lens. It may be necessary to re-examine these issues and determine if they are in fact unimportant and trivial, or if they are actually the roots of larger problems.

When Venus is retrograde – there is a strong tendency for heavy relationship issues – the make it or break it kind – to surface. And with Leo and Jupiter in the mix – egos are likely to be sensitive and on guard.

Along with Jupiter in Leo, Venus will also conjunct the Sun and Mercury. This suggests along with all the other shifts taking place, that there is likely a conversation that must take place, information that must be shared. It is likely that there has been a change and growth in mental clarity and awareness, that seems to be urging the need for this release. This may not be a conversation you want to have – whether it be confronting your own inner demons, a lover, friend or parent – Saturn, making a trine to the conjunction – tells us the time is now and the tone is serious.

With Mars still in Cancer, making a square to unpredictable Uranus in Aries – the energies again suggests shifts related to that which brings comfort and security.

On August 9th, Mars will make its move into Leo where it will further intensify the fiery energy of the Lion. Approximately 3 weeks later it will meet up with Venus. The drive, assertion and strength of Mars collide with our repressed feelings – adding to the conflicting energies. Mars’ goal is to push us forward, reinforce our courage and sexuality – while Venus retrograde has her own agenda, and is likely preoccupied with security (of the heart and the home) and finding the light at the end of the tunnel. When the proper awareness exists, it is possible to utilize these two energies together. As asserting oneself will bring new found security, and courage gives us the strength to steer our way through the looming chaos.

On September 6th, Venus finally stations direct and begins her journey back towards Virgo. With the post-shadow period spanning the next month, there is still more to be resolved and dealt with – but with Venus direct the energy becomes more tangible and familiar, helping us to navigate our way to the new beginnings that lay ahead.
