Mercury Stations Direct 9/21, Sun Enters Libra 9/22: From Perfection to Balance

mercury

On Wednesday, September 21st, Mercury will station direct in mid-Virgo after spending the last 3 weeks retrograde. Mercury is associated with communication and the way in which we receive information. It is also associated with our thoughts and with our ability to listen.

Mercury retrograde is an “Earthly” optical illusion, where Mercury appears to be going backwards in the sky. During this time, things associated with Mercury tend to act unpredictably.  Life usually feels a bit slower, plans tend to fall through or not pan out accordingly, miscommunications are on the rise, while details often slip through the cracks. Mercury retrograde also has the tendency to fog our thoughts, distract our minds and sometimes, depending on where Mercury falls in ones’ chart, can trigger a bit of depression. The goal of the retrograde is not to bring you down or make you feel crazy, but to get you to slow down enough to objectively look at your situation and make some changes. Living in a fast paced world, it is easy to get so caught up in what we are doing that we neglect to actually direct ourselves or make sure we are in alignment with where we intend to go. Mercury retrograde helps us to self-reflect and grow, by causing us to pause, to re-think and to re-adjust our perspectives and lives.

In addition to the typical inconveniences associated with Mercury retrograde, it is likely that this retrograde through Virgo also marked a period of self-refinement and skill-tuning. It turned our focus inward, as we worked on self-integration and self-acceptance; resulting in a new awareness of the separate parts of us: our thoughts and dreams, experiences and feelings, as well as our physical body and spiritual light. These parts of us are like puzzle pieces, and with this transit, perhaps we have found a new appreciation for our own personal puzzle or in some cases figured out a new way to put the pieces together, re-inventing ourselves as we discover what we are made of.

As Mercury stations direct, we are sent into the 2-week long final phase of the retrograde, the storm period. As Mercury slows to reverse its direction, the wacky retrograde energy comes to a peak. Information that has been kept secret or lurking beneath the surface tends to reveal itself. Issues regarding commitments or agreements made during the retrograde, wherein the fine-print was not noted, become more apparent. Though Mercury is now moving in the right direction, we are not quite out of the retrograde cycle yet, and as we examine the rest of the chart – it appears there is still more change, up ahead.

Looking deeper into the chart, Mercury stations direct in the 4th house, associated with home, family and roots, amid forming aspects to the Gemini moon, the Ascendant, and Pluto. With this, we are feeling somewhat emotionally detached and somewhat emotionally strained. There may be the need to discuss matters related to home or family, address things from our familial past, and/or pressure to make some domestic changes.

The Gemini moon conjunct the Ascendant, opposing Saturn in Sagittarius, suggests the need to make your emotional information useful, especially when it comes to relationships. Though it seems obvious, as humans, we have the tendency to fall into patterns and allow them to dominate our mode of function. We take our emotional information and toss it out the window. Maybe we get our hearts broken over and over again, or we have the habit of surrounding ourselves with people who are untrustworthy, or who really don’t have our best interests at hand. Or, maybe you have a tendency to be moody and lash out at those close to you, to manipulate others, or take advantage of those who care for you. Whatever the case may be – your emotional intelligence is a valuable tool and resource. Be mindful of your ways. Pay attention to the feelings this retrograde has triggered within you.

How can you learn from and effectively use these feelings to grow?

Let your emotions fuel and educate you. Whether they seem positive or negative, there is the need to really listen to your body and self; to recognize that your emotions are there to guide you, to help inform your rational mind about what you’re intuition is experiencing. Acknowledge what you feel and trust in yourself.

On Thursday, September 22nd, less than 24 hours after Mercury stations direct, the Sun will reach the Autumnal equinox, and join Venus and Jupiter in Libra. At the time of the equinox, the amount of daytime and night time is relatively equal. There is a sense of balance in the air, as the amount of light and darkness in our days begin to level out. With the Sun entering Libra, comes a sense of calmness and the ability to see things from a more objective position. As the anxious energy of Virgo begins to subside, our attention moves from perfecting to achieving a sense of inner peace. The Libra need for balance and equilibrium becomes more apparent in our days and thoughts. Life begins to feel lighter and less rigid.

The Sun’s energy combined with that of Jupiter and Venus in Libra creates the right environment for manifesting that which is needed in order to achieve a sense of internal stability. This trio is also associated with pleasure-seeking and a sense of generosity. Be open to the gifts life has to offer, look for the little things, and appreciate the synchronicity that weaves its way throughout our experiences.

Mercury Retrograde in Virgo August 30-September 21: Refining the Self

mercury

Over the last couple of months, planets have been collecting in the sign of Virgo. It began with Jupiter, which entered Virgo way back in August of 2015, followed by Mercury, which comfortably made its way into its domicile, or sign that it rules, on August 1st of this year. Venus not far behind, entered Virgo on August 6th and a few weeks later on August 22nd, the Sun too, made its way into Virgo.

This stellium in Virgo will continue to shift throughout the next month and a half; as Mercury stations retrograde and backtracks through the latter half of the sign, and the Sun and Moon create the Virgo solar eclipse and Pisces lunar eclipse. These events act to further infuse and shape our thoughts and environments with the conscientious, practical energies of Virgo.

Mercury Retrograde:

On August 30, Mercury will enter the last degree of Virgo and begin its journey backwards through the last half of the sign. With so many planets occupying Mercury ruled Virgo and Mercury approaching its station retrograde here, many of us are already feeling a bit of the retro-funk; fuzzy brained, slow motion reality, indecisiveness and a general feeling of discontentment with life.  There may be a sensation that we have been here before as we find ourselves reviewing, re-doing and revisiting themes from the last couple of weeks.

[For more on Mercury retrograde, read the following indented excerpt. For more on Mercury’s retrograde through Virgo, skip ahead!]

Mercury retrograde is an Earthly “optical illusion” where Mercury appears to be moving backwards, for 3 weeks, 3 times a year. During these times, one may notice “things” of a mercurial nature tend to go a bit awry.

As Mercury rules communication, we may find issues arise in all the many forms we use to communicate today, as well as with all those we communicate with. Mercury retrograde will affect everyone differently, however those who have strong Virgo, Gemini energy or highly aspected Mercury in their charts, may notice these periods of time to feel particularly frustrating.

As Mercury slows to station retrograde, our logic and abilities to reason may slow down with it. Most will notice their thoughts become sluggish, while at the same time creating a scatterbrained effect. It is common for listening and staying focused for extended periods of time to prove more difficult than usual; and to find that in the midst of a conversation you lose your train of thought. This often accompanied by the thought/feeling that “nothing is going right or according to plan.”

As legal agreements and contracts also fall under Mercury’s ruling, it is best not to sign or commit to anything new during these times. Retrogrades are ideal for re-visiting ideas, jobs, or relationships from the past, but attempting to begin or commit to new endeavors during these periods can backfire and is not recommended. With the constant change and the rather peculiar way of Mercury retrograde, it can be hard to predict what the outcome of situations will be. There is the tendency for whatever was agreed upon in said contract to change once Mercury goes direct.

However, in today’s world, it is difficult to stop from functioning and living in a “forward” motion. Many people find themselves in situations or careers where they must sign agreements or initiate new projects, life happens and deadlines are set, waiting until Mercury goes direct is not an option. It would be wise to be extremely cautious when/if you do find yourself in these situations, that all facts are thoroughly discussed and all fine print is carefully gone over (and over and over again). Though there are many inconveniences of its nature, (re-doing things over again being one of them) Mercury retrogrades can serve as a time for slowing down and really taking a good look at what is happening in our lives and how we can redirect things and make them better. There is no reason for fear or withdrawal from life, (though you may feel a bit more introverted during these times) but there is the need for heightened awareness, clear intentions, patience and preparation.

When Mercury is retrograde, it is a good time to expect the unexpected. Delayed flights, traffic jams at odd hours, computer/electronic malfunctions and miscommunications are often a very obvious part of the experience. Preparation is key to avoiding and overcoming such obstacles during this time. Some ways one can prepare are: allowing for more time to get from point A to point B, making copies of important documents, backing up computer files and double checking details you wouldn’t normally think twice about. When Mercury is retrograde, plans seem to never quite be set, life feels wobbly and uncertain. Leaving room for error and time for backtracking is helpful, while being uptight and trying to “fight” against the current will likely prove a waste of energy. Though we may consider these things to be inconvenient to our daily lives, they serve to help guide us. Underneath the mental fog and distractions is opportunity. Practice going with the flow.

While Mercury is retracing its path, there is increased mental ability to use retrospect in a positive way. To reassess the way we have done something, to revisit old ideas and thoughts- things that we didn’t commit to at the time but find new reason to appreciate now. There is support for reconnecting with old friends, rekindling old flames as well as the likelihood that current relationships will be under scrutiny and review.

It is common for old relationship issues that have been brushed aside to rear their head, and it is likely that with the flux in communication, it will be difficult to deliver the message so both in conversation are on the same page. It may be necessary to confirm that your message is heard and comprehended by the other party in the way in which you intended, and to make sure that you are hearing and understanding others correctly too. It is important to note, that this is really not the time to take drastic measures. Do not do anything that you cannot undo – if necessary.

Excerpt from Mercury Retrograde in Gemini

Virgo is the sign of the perfectionist; with its uncanny attention to detail, the desire to refine and improve, and the ability to visualize the most ideal, yet sometimes unrealistic outcomes. With Mercury stationing retrograde here,it is just as easy to get hung up on details as to overlook them. While it is important to be especially attentive to details during retrogrades, obsessing over flaws does not necessarily lead to solutions. Aim to be objective and open-minded.

It is important to remember that we are students of life and that our mistakes and imperfections can serve as our teachers, if we let them.  Virgo lessons tend to present themselves as lessons of humility, but this need not require obsessing over either. By providing space for us to continue to grow and directing us to the parts of us that still need some fine-tuning and adjusting, our shortcomings and failures can guide us, just the same as our talents and successes.

Virgo is also associated with a sense of apprenticeship, and the energy required to master ones’ skill. It is this intelligent, anxious energy, the one that fuels curious thoughts into carefully planned out action and seemingly finds and corrects even the smallest flaw, that allows for such mastery to eventually exist. Don’t let this energy go to waste! Allow the inconvenient ways of Mercury retrograde to assist you on your road to mastering that which you wish to create, achieve or become.

With Mercury stationing retrograde in the second house, associated with our sense of self-worth, our resources, values and our finances – there is focus on our personal inventory. Our skills, principals and doubts – all of our wonderful inspiration and horribly immobilizing fears – are up for review. With the heightened critical energy in the air, there may be inspiration to re-organize and weed through this inventory, getting rid of or at least becoming aware of that which no longer serves you.

How do your skills and thoughts define and shape your life and person that you are?

Do you allow your doubts and insecurities to paralyze you – or to stress you into action?

There may be a need to refine ones’ skill set, the desire to pursue hobbies and passions from the past, or an overwhelming eagerness to take on the role of the actual student again. Learning, re-educating, fine-tuning and updating our internal computers with the goal of increasing our self-value.

With Mercury being just a few degrees away from the cusp of the first/second house, the results of our “personal inventory” review are likely to lead to a shift relating to the skills we regularly put on display for the world to see. Things are changing, we are growing, evolving; both in the eyes of others and our own.

The chart for Mercury stationing retrograde places the Leo moon in the 12th house, suggesting a sense of inner strength. Beneath the surfacing anxiety, is the strength to persevere, to conquer and to stand proud and tall. The moon forms a trine to the lingering Mars Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius, this combination creates and fuels a sense of deep purpose and clarity that most of us don’t typically associate with that of Mercury retrograde. Despite the hiccups, confusion and periods of pause that the retrograde may trigger, there is quite a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

On September 21,  Mercury will station direct in mid-Virgo. We begin to see that there is a flexibility that exists within the rigidness of the Virgo need for perfection. That there is a method to the madness, a sense of order to the chaos, and the power to integrate the many seemingly separate parts of the puzzle of life into one beautiful masterpiece.

Hours after Mercury stations direct, the Sun will transition into Libra. The flux in energy will be a welcome one, as our thoughts become more fluid and the anxious energies that have acted as a sort of background noise are comforted by the solar shift into easy going Libra.

The Eclipses:

The Virgo and Pisces eclipses which coincide with Mercury’s retrograde, can intensify the time warp feeling of the retrograde. The slowness of the retrograde combined with the acceleration of the eclipse zone can feel confusing and uncomfortable. The pace of life tends to feel strange, unpredictable and frustrating. You may find yourself rushing to get things done, only to have to wait. Flexibility and staying on your toes is key!

Eclipses also have the tendency to bring things to awareness. With Jupiter and Mercury retrograde forming a conjunction at the exact same time as the Virgo eclipse,  we may be in for some big news. Jupiter is expansive and benevolent, it is spiritual and generous. There may be a sense of something “clicking” or gaining new understanding, as well as a sense of needing to connect to something bigger than the self.

Though retrogrades are not the ideal time to begin new ventures or projects, the eclipse zone – between September 1st and September 16th – provides just the right inertia to boost new habits and changes into our routines. Keep your head up, trust your intuition and know you can.

The Pisces lunar eclipse which closes this eclipse zone,  is exact on September 16. The eclipse takes place amidst a conjunction to Chiron, the centaur associated with our cosmic wound. This suggests there is healing that must take place. As the Sun and Moon oppose to form the eclipse, there may be a sort of magnification of old wounds. However, with the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter all opposing this in the 1oth house – there is the ability to use our wounds to propel us forward. To share our story and inspire others. At the same time, there is the ability to get sucked into the wounds and painful memories of the past and to end up playing the role of the victim. Remember the power of the mind, and again aim to stay present. Retrospect can be a gift, but re-living stressful situations just to wallow in the pain of what was, does not serve anyone. Let yourself detach from these memories, they do not define you.  Recognize your capability to play whichever role you decide, even if it is a role you have never played before.

Mercury Retrograde in Taurus 4/28/16-5/22/2016

mercury

On April 28, Mercury stations retrograde in Taurus, joining Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in this backwards phase. With so many planets currently retrograde, many of us are definitely feeling the funk; fuzzy brained, slow motion reality, indecisiveness and a general feeling of discontentment with life.  There may be a sensation that we have been here before, as we find ourselves reviewing, re-doing and revisiting themes from the last several months.

[With Mercury retrograde in Taurus, those with highly aspected Taurus or Venus will also feel the tug a bit more.]

—Excerpt from an older Starface Blog, available here.

As Mercury approaches the 23° of Taurus on Thursday, at 10:20am PST it will appear to slow to a stop, and then slowly begin retracing its path of the last two weeks. Taurus is associated with stability, ones’ sense of security (inner, physical and financial), and the ability to persevere and strive no matter what obstacles may be in the way. It is ruled by Venus, and is therefore also associated with things of a sensual nature, that which we find pleasure in, as well as matters of the heart. With Mercury stationing retrograde here, it is likely we will find ourselves feeling rather uncomfortable and our lives rather precarious. There may be issues surrounding what we normally consider our security blanket, where we find that that which once kept us safe, brought us peace or helped set our mind at ease might not offer the same level of comfort it once did. Shifting perspectives present us with dilemmas, as we find ourselves torn between choosing that which has always seemed safe, and that which we know will bring us future security. In addition to the usual quirks and inconveniences of Mercury retrograde, with Taurus in the picture, there is likely an instinctive response to withdraw and become self-reliant, or hide away. If you find yourself giving into hermit-like tendencies, allow yourself the necessary solitude, for it is truly in the quiet times alone, that you may reconnect with and regain your inner strength and momentum.

Mercury stationing retrograde in the 11th house finds us re-evaluating our ideas, beliefs and the social groups and networks we find ourselves to be members of. We will likely be considering how safe we feel among the groups in which we consider ourselves a part, and the stability or lack thereof, that it brings to our lives. Do the groups you are a part of bring out the best in you? Do you feel supported, like you are able to be true to yourself? Or do you find you must wear a mask to fit in?  There may be a need to re-create one’s group identity, perhaps taking on more responsibility or relinquishing some so others may uphold their part. As the 11th house is also associated with the earnings of the 10th house, or our career, there may be a need to look at and reassess how we handle our successes, whether it be money, social status or power.  We also may find there to be some sort of connection with the “outcome of our efforts” and some emotional stirring that is taking place within our closest relationships.

With the Moon and Pluto both in Capricorn, making a trine to Mercury retrograde, we are likely to experience a deep urge to express our emotions, to speak what we feel and think. However, with Mercury retrograde, there is a very good chance that those expressed emotions will be shared in such a way that they feel cold and detached, this likely leading down a road of one miscommunicated encounter after another. Try not to assume or finish others sentences. Practice your listening skills. Give yourself and others space; physical space, mental space, and a safe space to share and be without judgement. In removing judgment for others, you may notice that you lighten the load on the judgments you hold against yourself.

Meanwhile, Mars retrograde in the 5th house squaring both Neptune and Jupiter puts an extra big damper on our sense of creativity, sexuality and overall sense of fun. There may be difficulties letting go and managing stress; and activities which may usually bring pleasure and or release may lead down a frustrating road of anxiety and criticism. It would be wise to question whether being unnecessarily harsh on yourself or others is likely to produce the intended results. Know the difference between constructive criticism and being an asshole, and do your best to avoid the latter, but recognize that with the ease in which things are likely to be miscommunicated, it might be safer to just bite your tongue for now.

As with all retrogrades, the next few weeks will be full of ups and downs and lots of backwards. Focus on planning ahead and going with the flow. Make sure to allow for some alone time, let your mind wander and your thoughts and creativity flow. Aim to be present in your body, getting a massage or some kind of bodywork can really help provide some much needed grounding, especially when everything feels so up in the air. But most importantly, remember to be gentle with yourself and with those around you, a little TLC really does go a long way.

Mercury and the Moon : Leaving Space for Reflection

mercury color

On Saturday February 13th, Mercury will reach the 1st° of Aquarius, completing the first retrograde cycle of 2016. Mercury stationed direct January 25th and has been in its last part of its retrograde cycle, referred to as either the storm period or post-shadow period, ever since. During this time Mercury slowly begins to pick up speed, regaining momentum over the next few weeks, until it is back to its zippy little self. It is also during the storm period that errors or issues related to plans or commitments made during the retrograde, tend to reveal themselves. Mercury stationing direct tends to bring to light truths that may have been lurking beneath the surface in weeks prior. The slow, staggered flow of information that we likely found ourselves fumbling through has smoothed out, leaving things feeling more fluid than before. We are growing, molding and adjusting to the changes we have found ourselves going through, and with Mercury back to normal speed, reproaching Aquarius, we may soon find ourselves rebelling against our ways of the past in order to forge in new habits and be the change we are aiming to be.

Be sure to check out Reclaiming Your Power, for more on Mercury retrograde and Here Comes Change, for more on Mercury stationing direct.

Mercury in Aquarius can be light and quirky, but it can also stir up quite a bit of trouble. With Mercury’s presence here, in the 2nd house, our thoughts relating to our self-esteem, financial security and that which we own -our physical possessions as well as our actions, or lack thereof, and emotions – will likely filter in through a different light. There may be a feeling of detachment, shifts in confidence, or a desire to break the rules and come up with a set of your own.

Creative solutions and ideas are woven through the air and easy to tap into with a bit of focus and intuition. This is a time to create and invent, to let your originality flow. Additionally, there is an increased ability to problem solve, especially among groups. Mercury in Aquarius reminds us that as we each travel our own journey and create our own stories, we must not forget the great strength that arises when we come together and the great power of collective inspiration.

However, before Mercury enters Aquarius, it will make its final aspect in both Capricorn and its storm period, to the Moon. The planets form a square in the 2nd and 4th houses, in the last degrees of Capricorn and Aries. With the Moon in Aries, emotions run high; it is easy for discussions to become heated and for anxious stress to wreak havoc within. There also may be a lack of sensitivity in the air, as well as a sense of impulsiveness and arrogance. With this awareness, it would be wise to aim for objectivity if you find yourself in some sort of emotionally defensive predicament or dealing with someone else who might be, before responding or reacting. Leaving space for others to feel as they do will likely influence them to do the same for you. Coming from a place of understanding feels much different than coming from a place of thinking you know best.

The energy of Mercury in Capricorn has a much cooler tone than that of the Moon in Aries. Mercury in Capricorn wants to plan and come up with solutions; it wants to turn thoughts into reality. It does not want to stress or be concerned with the heaviness of emotions, there is far too much that must be done in the physical world; mountains to climb, money to make and goals to accomplish. Thus, we feel the square of the Moon and Mercury; the inconvenient pull between intense emotions that boil beneath the surface, or may be rather explosive for some, and that of simply needing to be productive and continuing to focus on that which we have our mind set.

With both being quick inner planets, the effects of this aspect are brief. However, with Mercury ingressing Aquarius we are propelled into a new phase of our journey and reflection. What has changed since the beginning of January? How have you handled and processed this change? As Mercury enters the same degree it stationed retrograde in, we may find ourselves consciously processing all that we have invited into our lives, or removed from our lives over the last month or so. Sometimes it is difficult to see change while it is in process, but as Mercury resumes its normal orbit, as time continues to pass, our views on this period of time will deepen. That which didn’t make sense, but felt right, will start to make sense. That which shifted the ground beneath your feet, will have strengthened your ability to balance. And the pain which may have left you devastated will heal you, and transform you in ways you had never envisioned.

Venus in the Mix: Venus Conjunct Pluto , February 5, 2016

Planet Venus. Image shot 2003. Exact date unknown.

Mercury and Pluto made the last of their conjunctions on Saturday, January 30.

Whatever changes we may have found ourselves thrust into over the past few weeks are likely to be evolving, as we either fight the flow of the currents, or embrace the journey we are on.

As the energies of the past few weeks begin to morph, the theme of change continues to be ever present, as Venus meets up to form a conjunction with Pluto on February 5. The energy of Venus, planet of love, pleasure, values, finances and beauty, merges with that of Pluto, planet of abrupt change, power and transformation.

Unlike Mercury, which is concerned with awareness and things of more of an abstract nature, Venus is associated with that in the tangible world, that which we can see and feel. It is likely that the merging of Venus and Pluto will bring the changes of the Mercury Pluto conjunction, that have taken place over the last few weeks, into our lives in a more physical way. What has changed or is in the process of changing in your physical world?  Whether we find ourselves with new financial burdens, learning to live or work differently than we are used to, expressing ourselves differently in relationships or even something as simple as getting a new haircut – the inner morphing triggered by the Mercury Pluto conjunction is seeping though to the world around us. It is time for things to play out, to live this change.

As mentioned in Leo Full Moon/Mercury Conjunct Pluto: Here Comes Change,

“Pluto aspects have the tendency to feel difficult and heavy, bringing about the growing pains of life as we mature emotionally and spiritually. The chance for crises and confusion is just as likely as the opportunity to achieve resolution, and to eventually find comfort in the changes taking place. Aim for patience with yourself and with others, especially over the next few weeks. You truly do not know the battles others are fighting, as you fight your own. Compassion and understanding go a long way, both personally and socially.”

Venus aims for comfort and pleasure, so there is a good chance that regardless of how uncomfortable these new ways of being may feel, there will also be an element of safety and balance helping to pull you through to the other side. In fact, Venus presents the opportunity to view these changes as a positive thing, something that will ultimately make you feel good; align you with your goals, and embrace your values.

As Venus rules romance as well, Venus Pluto aspects have the tendency to put a lot of emphasis on relationships (especially of the heart). This may feel like a moment of extremes, power struggles vs. devotion. Pay attention to what you are feeling and where your thoughts go.  From a realized feeling of intense dedication or commitment to a loved one, to an all-or-nothing ultimatum, to dramatically claiming to remain single forever – there is a possessiveness over that which we love and brings us comfort, there is a need to regain a sense of control or to at least to feel in control through all the change and shifting we are undergoing. You may find, however, that in letting go of certain issues, rather than trying to dominate them, you are able to better achieve balance and maintain your personal sense of power.

As Pluto strips away the superficial layers, helping us to shed that which no longer serves us and to really own our individual evolutionary journey, it is important to remember that kindness and gratitude go a long way.

On February 6th, the moon will join in on all the fun in Capricorn. The quick moving luminary will aspect Pluto, Venus and Mercury all within 24 hours, and then move on to Aquarius where it will join the Sun.  With this, our emotions are fused with all that is happening. First, facing the change in its meeting with Pluto, then seeing the bright side with Venus, and finally analyzing and beginning to really soak it all in with Mercury. Use this time to connect with yourself. Drawing, meditation, free-writing, or getting out in nature may offer a sense of grounding and light.

It is easy to be overwhelmed when your mind is trying to absorb so much at once, when there is much to address and responsibilities feel burdensome – give yourself space to feel and to process, but most importantly try to be gentle with yourself and with others.

The specific affects of planetary transits differ based on where planets are located in one’s natal chart and where the current planets are transiting. Leo Full Moon; Mercury Stations Direct, Conjuncts Pluto: Here Comes Change

mercury_pluto_

On Thursday, January 21st, Mercury, currently retrograde, began its conjunction with Pluto, planet of transformation, rebirth and regeneration. What might normally be a relatively quick and subtle aspect is exacerbated and lengthened as Mercury retrograde backtracks past Pluto in the 15th° of Capricorn to the 14th°, where it stations direct. At this point in the retrograde cycle, Mercury is moving at its slowest speed. Once stationed direct, it appears to come to a stop and then reverses direction, passing by Pluto once more and entering the storm period of the cycle. Because Mercury is retrograde and moving so slowly during this time, its transit with Pluto will be felt, emphasized and at work longer than usual.

However, before Mercury stations direct, a midst the conjunctions with Pluto, the energies are pulled to focus on the Moon, as we experience the Leo full moon, exact Sunday, January 24th at 5:46 PM PST. This adding a sense of drama and flair to the air, as well as the potential for a lighter, playful energy to our Sunday evening, before the heaviness ensues and Mercury stations direct. Leo adds a creative element to this transforming time. The Full Moon, hitting the 12th and 6th houses in the full moon chart suggests this is a good time to establish creative routine, find release. Leo, ruled by the Sun, is a bold sign, it is expressive and strong. This full moon reminds us of our part in creating our destiny in the world around us. As we engage with our environment, we have the choice as to how we greet our day, how we seize our day and how we react or respond to situations. Through this time of transformation, where many feel as though the world is shifting beneath their feet, it is important to remember the role our personal creativity plays in the life we manifest for ourselves. The Leo full moon is here to remind us of this power, the power we do have, when it may not feel like there is much power to be had.

During this time some deep changes are being urged and in a sense forced into our lives – pushing us all a little further on our personal evolutionary journeys. Adding to this already intense Plutonian energy that will fuel the next week or so, Mercury stations direct in the 8th house of Pluto co-ruled Scorpio on Monday, January 25th at 1:50 PM PST. This is a time of change, like it or not. Whether in regard to relationships, finances, career, matters at home, or how we present ourselves – the universe has bigger plans for us, and it is likely that beneath the stress and distractions of life, we also have bigger plans for ourselves. Pluto has the tendency to remove the unnecessary, the glitz and glamour and show you what needs addressing. Mercury’s slow visit here, implying the need to really think about what we are getting ourselves into, to really learn and dive into the details of the matter, but also implying a change in our awareness, and the need to expand our minds beyond their current limitations. Pluto, acting as a molding force.

Pluto aspects have the tendency to feel difficult and heavy, bringing about the growing pains of life as we mature emotionally and spiritually. The chance for crises and confusion is just as likely as the opportunity to achieve resolution, and to eventually find comfort in the changes taking place. Aim for patience with yourself and with others, especially over the next few weeks. You truly do not know the battles others are fighting, as you fight your own. Compassion and understanding go a long way, both personally and socially.

Furthermore, Mercury stationing direct and entering its storm phase brings up issues, commitments, conversations and plans we have made or encountered over the last few weeks, since Mercury stationed retrograde on January 5th. As Mercury made its way back through Capricorn, it is likely miscommunications, delays and revisions were common – especially in the work environment and and in regard to achieving goals. These set backs causing us to examine the structures of our lives; our homes, routines, money, authority and in some cases our bodies. This retrograde through the earth sign Capricorn associated with the material world, has been more tangible than Mercury’s retrogrades of 2015 through the air signs. Though the specific effects of the retrograde differ person to person, based on where it is currently transiting ones natal chart, as well as where and how prevalent Mercury and its associated signs and houses are in one’s natal chart – the overall inconveniences, technological malfunctions, and miscommunications are easily felt by all during these times, as well as being re-visited by ideas and people from our past.

As Mercury reaches the 14th° of Capricorn, where it stations direct, the inconveniences and typical Mercury retrograde anomalies will reach a peak, and then slowly begin to subside as Mercury completes its storm phase, and regains its speed. During retrogrades, it is generally not advised to make any commitments, sign new agreements or begin new impulsive projects, and it is during Mercury’s storm period that the unseen fine print, or overlooked details regarding these new endeavors tend to present themselves. The completion of the storm period, and this retrograde cycle ends on February 15th in the 1st° of Aquarius. Life stops feeling so backwards, and though we are still wobbly and unsure of this new metamorphosis we have undergone, though the fog is still thick and difficult to navigate through, with both feet on the ground, we feel as though we can move forward more easily with a greater sense of purpose and power.

Venus in Virgo 10/8, Mercury Stations Direct in Libra 10/9 : Coming Full Circle

Over the past couple of months, we experienced both Venus and Mercury stationing retrograde. Venus stationed retrograde at 1° Virgo on July 25th, and backtracked through the latter half of Leo, where it stationed direct on September 9th. On October 8th, Venus reaches Virgo again – likely, bringing to closure on some level, many of the issues we have been addressing since it stationed retrograde, as well as in a sense bringing us back to “where we were” around the end of July, with a fresh perspective and likely a change in values.

With Venus moving into Virgo, we are able to finally move forward beyond the ties to this most recent retrograde. Revisiting Leo allowed us another glimpse at the “big picture” in regard to our relationships, our finances and our values. Now in Virgo, we are able to fine tune the details – to work out all the kinks and REALLY integrate and seal in these new ways of being; tending to our seeds of intent, knowing that soon we will reap what we have sown.

Whereas Venus in Leo thrives on the attention and dramatics of the situation, Venus in Virgo is more about being validated and genuinely appreciated. Venus in Leo is fun, loving and always looking to play, but Venus in Virgo is critical, hard-working and looking to serve. There is a time to play, but there is also a time to work and with Venus in Leo for the past few months, it may have been easy to overlook our daily obligations. However, with Venus in Virgo making a square to Saturn in Sagittarius, play time is over for now. It is time to acknowledge our commitments and responsibilities; to practice integrity and sticking to the new values and goals we have created for ourselves.

Additionally, Virgo is associated with our health and our daily routines and habits. With Venus here it is important to take care of ones’ health. If you have been putting off getting something checked out or over-indulging in particularly unhealthy habits – health issues may begin to rear their head. Be sure to stay on top of your well-being: physical, mental and spiritual.

Early on the morning of October 9th, Mercury stations direct in the 1° Libra. Mercury’s recent retrograde through Venus ruled Libra hit on many of the same issues we had been sorting out with the Venus retrograde, but likely shed a new light on them. One that is more contemplative and analytical and less about the heartfelt connection. With Mercury stationing direct in 1° of Libra, we begin the storm phase, our journey back to where Mercury stationed retrograde. As Mercury slows to station direct and begins to head in the “right” direction, we will likely endure a bit more of the wacky retrograde energy before we are entirely in the clear.

Here is an excerpt on Mercury stationing direct from an earlier Starface post, Staying Dry Through The Storm:

“When Mercury stations direct, it appears to stop and slowly begin to move forward again. As Mercury is a quick moving planet – it doesn’t take long before it appears to pick up momentum and increase in its forward motion. It takes Mercury about two weeks to finally get up to speed, and it is this period of time we refer to as the Storm phase. Storm can make it sound scarier and more intense than it really is. Just as Mercury retrograde should not instill fear, neither should the Storm phase. Awareness, however, always comes in handy. There will be no hurricane, no massive flooding. Maybe some thunder and lightening, but I suggest thinking of it, at least metaphorically, as a downpour of rain, washing away the past, hydrating plants and life. It may be dark and dreary, visibility may be low and we may not quite know where we are going – but after we are left with rainbows, blue skies and beautiful greenery – refreshed with a sense of clarity.”

As Mercury moves ahead in Libra, we will likely feel the tug of ourselves pulling away from older traits and ways of being, and moving fully into this “new” version of ourselves. We will notice our communications slowly improve, as well as the tension, doubt and feelings of instability slowly beginning to melt away. However, with Mars and the Moon forming a conjunction in Virgo, the tension in the air is re-enforced a bit longer, and we may find it hard not to act on emotions and/or to be critical of others. Whereas during the retrograde it was not the best time to act on ones feelings, Saturn making a square to the Moon, Venus and Mars suggests that now is the time. We have re-evaluated our thoughts, our ways, our wants and our needs and have arrived at some sort of solution as to how we are going to move forward from here. Now, with both Venus and Mercury direct, we take our first step.

With Mercury direct and Venus back in Virgo – we are ready to move forward, to get on to the next project, and/or for things to go back to “normal”. However, with the Sun approaching an opposition to Uranus, we are re-defining what our “normal” mode of function is, as we come full circle in this retrograde cycle.

Meanwhile, Neptune in Pisces opposing the stellium of planets in Virgo reminds us of the importance of incorporating true creativity and heart into everything we do, while at the same time reminding us to be real and honest with ourselves as we begin this new journey.
