Mars Direct in Scorpio 06/29/16: Pushing Forward

mars

On Wednesday,  June 29, Mars will station direct, completing its retrograde through the first part of Sagittarius and the last 7 degrees of Scorpio.  Mars is the planet associated with that which we desire most in life.  It is the craving we must satisfy and the lover we lust for passionately.  It is the drive to make our dreams tangible, the bravery to confront one’s fears.  It is seemingly unconquerable. Like adrenaline, Mars is the strength and energy to persevere and survive when the odds are stacked against you. With Mars retrograde the last two months, it is likely these aspects of our lives, of ourselves, have turned inward for a period of internal review and soul strengthening. Its lessons presented themselves as obstacles, such as the inability to express oneself accurately, difficulties connecting with one’s passions or inhibited creative or sexual release. Its lessons also likely inspired a sense of internal investigation leading us to question our beliefs, all that we think we know and all that we think we are. Ultimately, Mars retrograde serves to propel us forward on our journey; to get us in touch with the deep wants and callings from within, and to give us the courage to face whatever darkness we may encounter along the way.

With Mars stationing direct in the 12th house, just a degree above the Ascendant, our truth is surfacing. Attention is brought to our transforming inner thoughts. Our mind has changed, expanded to allow for a new mode of expression and being. You are more than you thought you could be. Strong, brave and ready to go. There is a deep urge to grow, to face fears and to feel fully and openly. However, where one’s truth is exposed, often, so too is one’s sense of denial. The 12th house is the house of the unconscious and secrets. With Scorpio on the cusp, we are seeking truth; personal, spiritual, physical, sexual and biological – but this cannot be found without first acknowledging whatever lies might bury it.

Mars forms a trine to Venus in the 8th house, with Cancer on the cusp. This suggests that the truths we may be coming to terms with are transforming our home, or our concept of what or where home is. Whether it is the physical structure/place, people and materials that fill it, or the spiritual and emotional connotation – change is inevitable. A shift has occurred, momentum has been accumulating, and with Mars now moving forward and our minds focused on truth – it is time to let that truth envelop one’s environment and become part of one’s story. The Sun and Mercury, also in Cancer, further emphasize the energies of the home ; perhaps the purchasing or move to a new one, re-decorating or re-financing. There is a strong feeling of needing ones identity to be adequately represented by one’s home, and making whatever changes needed to achieve this. After the instability and insecurities of the last few months, it is important to feel safe in one’s living environment, to feel free and to be able to embrace the activities and material possessions that bring joy and beauty to one’s life.

The moon in Taurus forms a sextile to the Sun in Cancer, forging the connection between how we are managing our stress and the amount of emotional energy we have to put towards our usual daily endeavors. If we are coming from a place that feels positive and capable, if the changes we are making are truly in our best interest – we are likely to find ourselves feeling peaceful and productive. Without the burdens of the past and the backward tug of the retrograde, we can move forward, re-directing our emotional output and energy. However, there is also the ability to linger in the funk of what has not played out according to desire. This can lead to a more lazy, over-indulgent behavior – so much emotional energy is being used to linger that there are limited amounts left to put towards one’s normal routine. Times are tough and it’s important to be gentle with yourself, but you must also encourage yourself to grow and to let go of that which does not serve you. The last few months have required a sense of patience with oneself, but we are at a point now, where – like Mars – it is time to push forward.

Sagittarius Full Moon & Mercury Direct: Searching the Soul

moon stars

On Friday, May 20, the Sun begins its journey through Gemini, leaving Venus and Mercury retrograde in Taurus. With the Sun leaving the calm, earthy sign of the bull and entering the flighty, energetic realm of the twins, we may notice a change in the way in which we process information, leaving the sensual, physical ways of Taurus, [ think: touch, closeness, dependability] for the mentally agile ways of Gemini, [think: stimulating conversation, intellect, new ideas]. The shift in Solar energy is just the beginning of several celestial events peaking this weekend, as we experience the Sagittarius full moon on Saturday and Mercury stationing direct on Sunday!

Sagittarius Full Moon

The full moon is exact at 2:15 pm PST on Saturday the 21st of May in the very first degree of Sagittarius and forms a conjunction to Mars retrograde, in the second degree of Sagittarius, still a few degrees away from its re-entrance to Scorpio. Meanwhile, just a few degrees away from the Sun, is Venus, still in Taurus, but close enough to join in on the energy of the opposition straddling the 3rd and 9th houses. The 3rd, associated with our perceived environment, communication, our siblings and our neighbors; the 9th associated with traveling, education, setting goals and spiritual attainment.

As the moon and mars meet up for their conjunction, there may be a feeling of emotionally moving backwards or feeling confused about recent “emotionally” or passion fueled decisions. The moon being so close to Mars retrograde in Sagittarius, can feel a bit emotionally repressed. There may be a feeling of not being able to get what you want, leading to borderline childish reactions. Try to be considerate. Considerate of others, but also considerate of yourself; of your behavior and how your actions influence your perception of your environment.

The Sun in Gemini, merging its energy with that of Venus a few degrees away in Taurus, will likely have us aligning ourselves with our values, or experience a sense of feeling “defined” by what you have. This can lead to feelings of selfishness or selflessness, there may be a need to re-evaluate what it means to “own” or “have” something in contrast to what it means to know or to feel something.

Full moons have the tendency to bring to light issues that have remained unnoticed or unacknowledged. With the combination of Mars retrograde and the moon, particularly in the sign of Sagittarius, there is an element of emotional truth that we may be trying to come to terms with. We will likely find ourselves doing some soul searching and may even find we scratch the surface of some rather uncomfortable stuff. Try not to let yourself get too overwhelmed, as this phase of the moon passes, so too will the emotional intensity. The key is not to judge oneself, but to search curiously within, to see what you find.

It is likely that newly aroused passion or realized goals beg to be set and pursued. Inspiration demands to be channeled, but there is also a sense of being held back and feeling as though something in the equation isn’t quite right yet. With over a month left of Mars retrograde, it may be awhile before our plans for pursuing these burning urges start to play out in the intended way, where we don’t find ourselves taking one step forward and two steps back. For now, it may be best to nourish that spark. Allow the passion and desire that is likely beginning to emerge, into your life, and soak it up. Marinate in it, until you have absorbed so much of that it has actually become a part of you.

Mercury Direct

Early Sunday morning, Mercury will station direct in Taurus and enter its storm phase, the last part of the retrograde cycle. During this time Mercury slowly begins to pick up speed, regaining momentum over the next few weeks, until it is back to its zippy little self. Things feel more forward moving, but the inconveniences of the retrograde are not over just yet. During the storm period, errors or issues related to plans or commitments made during the retrograde tend to reveal themselves. Mercury stationing direct tends to bring to light truths that may have been lurking beneath the surface in weeks prior. As the slow, staggered flow of information that we have likely found ourselves fumbling through begins to smooth out, both our thoughts and our lives’ will begin to feel more fluid.

Over the last 3 weeks, as Mercury retraced its path through Taurus [on top of all the usual retrograde inconveniences] it is likely that we have been dealing with issues related to our sense of security, our finances, and our values; as well as our place among our social networks and the groups that we belong to. For some, Mercury’s retrograde through Taurus may felt stripping, as we are forced to move on from that which we have deemed safe and comfortable. For others, it may have felt eye-opening, as we gained new respect and perspective on our finances and earnings. Some, may have had a less intense experience, and just had to fumble through the usual inconvenient ways of Mercury retrograde, but it is safe to say, the last few weeks have definitely felt off. As with all astrological events, the specific impacts and affects the transit will have on individuals differs depending on where planets are located in one’s birth chart, for more details and personalized information, email Starface Astrology!

As Mercury stations direct in the 12th house, associated with our deepest thoughts and secrets, and forms a trine to Jupiter in the 4th house, associated with ones’ home and roots, there may be an element of needing to address things at home, or to search for the solutions or answers to current problems in the ways of the past. In addition to forming a trine to Jupiter, Mercury also forms a trine to Pluto in the 8th house, suggesting we are very aware of the internal shifts and changes taking place within each of us. Also suggesting we may continue to deal with authority issues, even if it is personally, inside our own mind.

Mercury in Taurus is reliable, loyal, musical and peaceful. However, it can also be unwilling to cooperate, become set in unhealthy overindulging ways and be uncompromisingly stubborn. In the 12th house, Mercury in Taurus can describe a sort of mental perseverance able to conquer all, but it can also describe the opposite; a mental breakdown, a sort of all-encompassing withdrawal from the outside world.

It can be difficult to thrive and move forward after periods of change, especially after having one’s safety net removed, or security blanket taken away. Life feels unsteady, heart and mind feel unsure, so instead of moving forward or even moving backwards, paralysis sets in and stagnancy replaces production. It is an easy hole to fall into, but the truth is, despite the discomfort, it’s really not necessary to end up in a downward spiral. The power to choose your outcome is in your hands, your thoughts and your intention.

Saturn in Sagittarius, just above the descendant reminds us of the importance of setting routine, learning discipline and acting with integrity, especially when relating and interacting with others. In order to make peace with the changes we are implementing into our lives, we must be real, real with ourselves and real with others. Growth comes with experience, with acknowledging mistakes made and learning to do things differently. Healing cannot be rushed any more than one can rush a spiritual awakening. Claiming to have conquered your inner demons and to have changed for the approval of others, rather than for oneself, (or before you actually have) is likely to create frustration and confusion for everyone involved. At the same time, it is necessary to understand that one’s path is not everyone else’s and safe  space must be given for each to develop their own sense of boundaries and direction.

With the moon and Mars still occupying Sagittarius, we may notice our emotions still feeling off, our mode of expression turned inward. Though Mercury has stationed direct, there is still some funk to work through during the storm phase. We may find ourselves stuck picking up the pieces of a financial disaster, a relationship, or simply trying to figure out what it means to feel peace of mind – which can be exacerbated by Mars retrograde. It is important during this time to focus and listen to yourself, to really pay attention to your thoughts and where they are directing you. Acting on autopilot, doing as you normally do – will lead you to the same conclusion.  Whereas the goal of the retrograde is to break the cycle, to grow and to reach a new level of awareness. Beneath the inconvenient, mentally taxing ways of Mercury retrograde is opportunity, a second chance.

Take it.

Mars Retrograde in Sagittarius April 17-June 29: Rediscovering Purpose

mars

On April 17, at 5:15 am PST, Mars will station retrograde in Sagittarius, and begin its journey backwards through the first part of Sagittarius and the last 7° of Scorpio. For the next two months, the planet associated with our sense of passion, desire, sexual energy and initiating projects or ideas into action, will appear to backtrack through its orbit to where it was in mid-February – likely causing us to re-evaluate the path we have been on since then and to figure out how to re-direct our internal GPS so we may be more on track with our purpose.

Mars is associated with the things we want and crave most in life. The things we are willing to fight for and in some cases to die for; Mars is sexual, masculine and driven. It is the tension that pushes us to grow, to be courageous and to keep going when it feels like you are running on empty. With Mars stationing retrograde in Sagittarius, it is likely we will find ourselves questioning what it is that we truly want in life and where it is that we want to go.

What is it that you crave? What are you willing to fight for?

Sagittarius is a fiery sign that loves adventure, both the physical and intellectual kinds. It is associated with belief and religion and discovering the truths of life. Mars retrograde in Sagittarius may trigger a period of crisis where you find yourself scrutinizing your beliefs, thoughts and the way in which you do things. As Mars re-enters Scorpio, there may be a sense of internal imbalance, anxiety and uncertainty. There is a need to find meaning and purpose in the lives we have created for ourselves. We may find ourselves struggling with issues related to sexuality and/or allowing ourselves to openly desire that which we find ourselves being drawn to. It is easy for our personal truth to get buried over time, beneath layers of societal pressures, negative self-talk, financial burdens and fear. It may be less easy to uncover this truth, but the reward is the opportunity to be the real you.

About 7° away from Mars in Sagittarius is Saturn, suggesting that this period of review may have us changing the way in which we apply our knowledge and the way in which we relate to authority figures. What is it that you know? How do you use this knowledge?  And, is that really what you want to be doing with it? Additionally both Saturn and Mars form a trine to Venus in Aries, in the house associated with “I am”, re-emphasizing the importance of focusing on the self, on you, and what it is that makes you, you. Embrace your flaws, the things you do not do perfectly, and embrace your talents and skills that you’ve mastered. It really doesn’t matter what people think, especially when the source is pure, unbridled passion.

The moon and Jupiter in Virgo form a square to both Mars and Saturn suggesting that this need to find meaning and re-direct our lives toward purpose and passion may send us into a state of emotional extremes. There may be a need to change the way in which we regularly respond to emotionally stimulating events, or the way in which we express our emotions in general.  However, Neptune making an opposition to the moon and Jupiter encourages us to channel these mood swings creatively and reminds us to pay attention to our dreams and the messages our subconscious may be trying to deliver.

Meanwhile, Mercury in Taurus forms a square to Pluto in Capricorn, suggesting that changes taking place in regard to social status, reputation or career may be impacting and shifting finances. Mercury in Taurus, tends to bring about discussions revolving around security and money. This is an ideal time to re-organize your budget and to reconsider your relationship with money, especially since these issues related to security and finances will likely be re-visited when Mercury stations retrograde on April 28.

The next few months are likely to feel like quite a journey. Hold tight and try to make the most of it. Travelling and exploring new worlds and ways of being can  be incredibly enlightening and empowering during this time, but it can be just as enlightening and empowering to explore the inner world of you. Get in touch with yourself!  If you find yourself really struggling, try using some deep breathing techniques or meditation to help be present in your body. Affirmations can also help encourage the development of positive thoughts and help in guiding you to manifest the world you envision around you.

Full Moon in Sagittarius : Practicing Patience

Tuesday’s full moon will occur at 9:19am PST, at 11° Sagittarius. The full moon represents the peak in our lunar cycle. It is a time full of great energy and is ideal for putting our ideas into action. With Sagittarius on the cusp, the feeling of needing to move forward in life is further intensified. However, there is the conflicting energy of Mercury retrograde tying into the mix, causing the opposing feeling of needing to slow down and take our time.

When the energy seems to pull and push in two different directions in time and space, it is best to remain as present as possible. Mercury is still about 10 days from stationing direct and it is likely we are still dealing with some issues from the past, and that this moon will help provide us with the energy and emotional stamina we need to successfully navigate the rest of the retrograde. With Sagittarius here pointing the way, it is likely some of these issues requiring active participation of the individual, will be magnified and focused in on. It is also likely, that along with the magnification of our issues, we will see and have a better understanding of the big picture.

Just below the horizon in the 5th house, the moon will be opposing the Sun, Mercury retrograde and Mars as well. The moon represents the core of our emotional center and with this placement, we will feel pulled to express ourselves creatively during this time. With Sagittarius, guiding this creative release, we may find our minds urging for knowledge and stimulation, or our souls longing for adventure. Whether it be learning a new song or dance, painting pictures of far off lands, visiting a museum or getting lost in a novel – it is likely the desire to bridge the two energies will be very present.

As already stated, with Mercury in the equation, disrupting means of communication in one way or another as it backtracks across its path in the early part of Gemini, there is a good chance that we will again be revisiting some themes and/or situations that may have recently resurfaced, or that something that has been out of sight or kept hidden will be communicated/revealed. With Mars as another key player, a key player who has been in the picture for quite awhile as well, adding fuel to the fire – it is likely that whatever is shared will be intensely felt- regardless of how heavy the situation actually is.

Keeping the moon company in the 5th house, is Saturn retrograde. Less than a degree from re-entering Scorpio, Saturn’s presence here in Sagittarius can cause creative or sexual blockages. Also, as Saturn is associated with time, we are reminded that time is of the essence. It is time to confront fear of criticism and allow ourselves to flourish and move forward. Though it is still not the best time to make drastic changes, it is an ideal time for planning and setting intentions for the future.

Additionally, Neptune in Pisces is making a T-square to the full moon axis, increasing the likelihood for over-reacting and drama. In the 8th house, Neptune can feel confusing, bordering on insanity. It can bring about deceptive thoughts that can cause despair. It is important to remember though that this is just part of the cycle. Just as the full moon brings high tides to the oceans, so too can it arouse the high tides of our emotional state. And, as we examine the rest of the chart – we see that although there is a heavier element to this full moon, the majority of the energy to be utilized and experienced is rooted in joy and creativity.

Sagittarius is concerned with higher education, culture and adventure – in the 5th house –  produces a rather fun, lighthearted energy. With the full moon in the house concerned with creativity and children, the energy suggests a great time for pursuing creative endeavors or family trips. Though tension may be rather high it can be channeled and expressed productively and constructively. With the stellium of planets in Gemini, in the 11th house, the energy is light, chatty, social and ideal for a good time.  With Jupiter in the first house making a sextile to Mars, the likelihood for ego encounters, including with ones own, is high – but so is the energy to look past it.

Another thing to note, is Uranus which is conjunct the midheaven in Aries, making a square to Venus conjunct the Ascendant. This can mean unexpected changes in regards to security, money or relationships. The positions of both of these planets are both important self-defining points –  suggesting that perhaps our identity, the way we view ourselves, or the way others view us may also be altered. It can also suggest beginning new adventures within relationships, or finding new solutions or ways to go about things in regards to our love or money situations. Uranus is extremely innovative and creative – combined with Venus’ love for fine arts and music –  the energies provide the ideal oomph for art/music making.

Full Moon Astroguidance:

Try not to take things too seriously or jump to conclusions. Hear others out, and allow yourself adequate time to process the information you’re told before responding, as opposed to immediately reacting.

Remember there is always more than one side to a story. Though you may not remember something happening a certain way, that does not mean that for another, that was not the reality they experienced.

Have fun. Surround yourself with good, enlightening company.

If you are feeling overly burdened and stressed –  it is a great time to explore creative pursuits.

If you find yourself dealing with relationship troubles – try to leave space for compromise. It is also advised not to take any drastic measures in making or breaking commitments until the retrograde is over on June 11.

And lastly – it is important to remember not to believe everything you hear, and to check your facts! With all the Gemini energy, there is tendency for spreading rumors, and with Mercury retrograde, for inaccurate information to be released.
